We just returned to Wichita yesterday after 5 days in Las Vegas. As thanks to Phil’s sister for dog sitting, we took her out to lunch at Caffe Moderne, located in Old Town Square. The atmosphere reminded me of an old ice cream parlor. There was an old-fashioned bar and stained glass windows throughout. The restaurant also features artwork from local artists. The heart of the menu consists of various paninis, that are crafted with unique combinations of sandwich material. I ordered the Josephine sandwich and side salad. The sandwich contained a healthy amount of turkey, toasted walnuts, gorgonzola cheese, and honey mayo. It was phenomenal! It was toasted perfectly and all of the various tastes and textures were wonderful! My husband enjoyed The Moderne, which was a delicious combination of prosciutto, pesto, mozzarella, and balsamic vinaigrette. We were already sold on coming back to this place when I went to the wheel of gelato. You read that correctly, there is a giant wheel of gelato as pictured to the left. Our server met us over there so we could sample before we picked our flavor. I had a very difficult time deciding between the peanut butter chocolate chip and the 21+ mudslide flavors. I ended up going with the peanut butter, which was splendid. I have to say though, I will try the mudslide the next time I go back because we both decided that a return visit is definitely warranted. This is a great place for lunch-we saw several people in business attire while there-or a date. Our server was wonderful and offered suggestions on what to order and as well as allowing us to sample several gelato flavors.
