Genova Italian Restaurant

If you ever find yourself shopping at  the outlet mall in Newton and have a sudden hunger attack, you can do much better than the Burger King across the street. In fact if you take an extra few minutes to drive into town you can enjoy some of the best Italian food in the Wichita area.

Genova is the popular Italian restaurant located on the south side of Newton. Since their opening two years ago they have developed quite a name for themselves both in Newton and surrounding areas. The restaurant sits tucked away in a dated shopping center, but inside is a sizable dining area and a friendly staff .

Fresh baked rolls and dipping sauce

Our visit started with some of their famous fresh baked rolls and a balsamic dipping sauce as we perused the long list of pastas, pizzas, and salads. The rolls were quite delicious and it took much willpower to limit ourselves to just a couple of the warm treats. For our main dishes we decided to order Tortellini alla Panna, Linguine Tuttomare, and a basic spaghetti with meatballs for the kids.

The Tortellini alla Panna consisted of cheese tortellini with shrimp that was tossed with a delicious creamy cheese and tomato sauce. The velvety sauce clung to the pasta and shrimp and really set this basic dish from apart from others. Our Linguine Tuttomare was an impressive helping of shrimp, calamari, baby clams, and scallops served on a bed of linguine and white wine sauce. The sauce was flavorful, but light enough to allow the seafood to not be overpowered. Our boys loved the basic spaghetti with meatballs as did we. Again the simple marinara sauce coated all the pasta and provided just enough flavor to both the spaghetti and meatballs.

Genova sets itself apart from other Italian restaurants because they do not overwhelm their food with copious amounts of cheese and their delicious homemade sauces are used in moderation. It is well worth the drive to Newton if you are looking for a good Italian meal.

Note: For those that enjoy a bottle of wine or maybe a Peroni with their pasta you will be out of luck at Genova, as they do not sell alcohol.
